A few things to bring to your attention:

Our phone number has changed!  Please reprogram your phone to 508.523.4512

As business (and life) have been very busy lately, The Pose of the Week has been temporarily put on hold.  Please continue to send me any questions you come across and to schedule appointments.

Find your serenity through balance.  Balancing your mind - clear, honest, respectful, organized thoughts; balancing your spirit - knowing that it is ok to be sad or stressed or happy or hopeful and also knowing how to deal with these emotions; and balancing your body - finding correct alignment in postures and going deeper in your practice.  When we can achieve balance in these areas we can begin to join mind, body and spirit together - thus the meaning of yoga.

Hatha Yoga is the form of yoga that many people think of when hearing the word yoga today.  Hatha yoga focuses on asanas - or postures. (So Iyengar, Bikram, power, gentle... these are all forms of Hatha because they all work with postures.)

There are a myriad of benefits to practicing yoga, some of which include:

Physiological

  • improved balance

  • decrease in pulse and respiratory rates

  • decrease in blood pressure

  • gastrointestinal function normalizes

  • increase in musculoskeletal flexibility and joint range of motion

  • increase in grip strength

  • hand-eye coordination improves

  • better posture

  • increase of endurance and energy level

  • better sleep

  • better immunity

  • proprioception improves

  • stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system - balancing out the often over-stimulated sympathetic nervous system

Psychological

  • mood improves

  • anxiety and depression decrease

  • concentration improves

  • memory improves

  • attention improves

Biochemical

  • decrease in glucose

  • decrease in sodium

  • increase in HDL cholesterol

  • decrease in LDL cholesterol

  • increase in hematocrit

  • increase in hemoglobin

In comparison to other exercises, yoga is non-competitive and balances activity of opposing muscle groups.
